The Lord of Miracles (Señor de los Milagros) Procession is one of the largest religious events in the Americas and takes place during the month of October in Lima. The event pays homage to the image of Christ painted by an African slave in the 17th century, which miraculously survived multiple earthquakes. The procession features a replica of the painting, carried by thousands of purple-robed devotees through the streets of Lima, accompanied by prayer, music, and aromatic incense.
