The Xwetanu Festival, or Festival de la Mensonge (Festival of Lies), is a unique cultural event that takes place in the southern region of Benin among the Fon people. The festival highlights the positive values of lying and deceit, which are believed to foster unity and harmony within communities. During the two-day event, participants compete in storytelling competitions, with the most skilled liar taking home the grand prize of a scepter, proclaiming him or her the biggest liar of the year.
