Also known as the 'Door to Hell,' the Darvaza Gas Crater is a natural gas field that was intentionally set ablaze by Soviet geologists in 1971 to prevent the spread of methane gas. This fiery crater has been burning continuously for more than four decades, providing a visual spectacle amidst the desolate Karakum Desert. Although not strictly historical, its unique origin makes it a must-see site in Turkmenistan.
