Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is home to over 80 resident elephants, making it one of the largest herds of captive elephants in the world. Established in 1975 to care for orphaned and injured elephants, the orphanage offers a unique opportunity for tourists to observe elephants up close and learn about their conservation efforts in Sri Lanka.
