The UNESCO-listed Jesuit Missions of La Santísima Trinidad de Paraná and Jesús de Tavarangue are the magnificent ruins of 17th and 18th-century missions established by the Jesuits for the Guarani tribes. The missions were part of a larger cultural and social project known as the Jesuit-Guarani theocratic state.
