The Aïr Mountains are located in the north of Niger, and are part of the larger Air and Ténéré Natural Reserves. The area is famous for its dramatic landforms, ancient rock paintings, and cultural heritage of the Tuareg people. The highest peak, Mont Idoukal-n-Taghès, reaches 6,634 ft (2,022 meters) above sea level, providing an impressive contrast to the surrounding desert landscapes.
