Located in the old city of Gaza, the Al-Omari Mosque is considered to be one of the oldest and largest mosques in the region. Originally a Byzantine-era church, the structure was later converted into a mosque after the Islamic conquests in the 7th century. The mosque has withstood bombardments during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and its architectural blend of Byzantine and Islamic styles is evident in its arches, columns, and mosaics.
