The International Roots Festival is a unique celebration of African heritage and culture, held in The Gambia every two years. With its focus on reconnecting the African diaspora with their roots, the Festival includes traditional music, dance performances, storytelling sessions, workshops, and a symbolic boat ride to Kunta Kinteh island (previously known as James Island), a UNESCO World Heritage site tied to the history of the transatlantic slave trade.
