The Ruins of Ujarrás are the remains of one of the oldest churches in Costa Rica, built in the late 16th century. Legend has it that a local fisherman found a box containing an image of the Virgin Mary under a waterfall, and the church was built on this site as a tribute. The ruins are set amid beautiful gardens in the Orosi Valley and provide a fascinating insight into the early Spanish colonial period in Costa Rica.
