Jambay Lhakhang is an ancient temple, believed to be one of the 108 temples built by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. The temple holds an annual festival called Jambay Lhakhang Drup, a sacred masked dance festival that lasts for five days and attracts numerous devotees and tourists alike. The highlight of the festival is a fire ceremony known as 'Mewang', where participants run beneath a large flaming gate to cleanse themselves of sin.
